By Rebecca Mason

Orlando has to be one of the top holiday destinations in the world. Its most famous resident is a mouse. Lots of people flock to see this mouse and his friends, especially families with children. A lot will visit this area more than once as it has a lot to offer everyone. When looking for accommodation it is easy to choose from the luxury home rentals Orlando has.

It makes the ideal choice for a family to rent a house, villa or apartment for their stay. Many come with pools or hot tubs, and offer luxury living that would cost a fortune in a hotel. It is a huge advantage for a family to be able to choose to eat in on occasions.

The homes have well equipped kitchens which make it easy to cook a meal, or even barbecue outside. If no one feels like cooking then there is still the option of ordering in while relaxing round your private pool. It is fun to eat out, but can be expensive for a family, and after a hard day sightseeing it is very tempting to kick back and relax in your home from home.

Renting a home means that you get to pick the size and location of it. You can choose the sights that you want to be nearest to and narrow down your search that way. If you are travelling in a large group of family or friends then you can be sure to find accommodation that will suit you all.

It can be a great house party, or a more intimate place for a small family. If there is a big occasion coming up then it is a great excuse for a holiday. Young children will love it if there are lots of people and other kids around. It is also really convenient to have access to laundry facilities.

Orlando is a fantastic destination as it has a nice climate for much of the year. It has a lot of theme parks which could keep you occupied for two or more weeks, but there is much more to see and do. It can offer excellent golf courses and shopping malls. For something a bit different why not take an air boat ride and try to see the alligators.

The space centre offers a fun and informative day out for all the family. It has a real wow factor. If it is your first time in Orlando then you will want to come back. If you are looking for luxury home rentals Orlando has lots to choose from.

Egypt Holidays - Light Travel: Carry-On Only

By Mikelo Vunjektu

Light travel? The last time my wife and I went to Ecuador, I had 10 pounds of baggage, all in one carry-on bag. Ana had just eight pounds in her carry-on bag. We spent 6 weeks in Ecuador, sometimes on glacier-covered mountains, and at other times, lounging on Pacific coast beaches.

Why travel lightweight? Simplicity. With only carry-on luggage, we were in a restaurant in Quito, whilst other people still waited for their checked luggage. On busses, our baggage was safely with us, not in the hold below being cut open, like one time when I was in Mexico. Others struggled down the street with three heavy bags, while we had our hands free and were walking easily with our daypacks. We had less to lose, less to be stolen, less to wait for, less to pack and unpack in hotels, and less to be worried about.

Light Travel Issues

Expect an extra question or two from the customs officials at the airport (Six weeks with only this?). Also, a small bag may not work if you plan to bring back several souvenirs. In this case, you could plan to purchase a second bag eventually, to hold your purchases. As for not having enough clothes and other things, it isn't as big a problem as you may think.

My silk shirts weigh three ounces, and travel well if rolled up. Nylon dress socks weigh less than an ounce, and are cool and comfortable. Poly-cotton blend t-shirts weigh 5 ounces. Supplex or other lightweight travel slacks weigh nine ounces, and are sufficient for a fine restaurant or a walk in the woods. Half of what usual travel clothes weigh, these take much less space, and function the same. There is no sacrifice engaged here.

You do not even have to purchase new clothes, if you do not want to. You don't have to buy a scale and count ounces. Simply choose lighter alternatives when you can. Put aside your lightest jacket, socks and pants for your next trip. Simplicity, not complicated planning, is the goal.

Much more Light Travel Secrets

Money can replace weight. Why carry two pounds of shampoo when you can buy small bottles when you travel? It will not cost a lot more to purchase things as you go. Furthermore, you truly do not know what you will need, particularly on an overseas trip. Buy things when you need them, and you won't have a pile of useless things in your luggage. Do not we all frequently unpack things at home that we never once used throughout a trip?

Gifts and souvenirs? Should you buy bulky gifts for family or friends, why carry them around for weeks? Put them in the mail.

The Algarve is a tourist hotspot, so a great number of entertainment options have developed over the years.

Enjoying a place on the southern section of Portugal, the Algarve plays host to dazzling, sunny beaches and a warm, relaxing climate. The beaches are the perfect locale on which to place the beach blanket and soak up the rays or dive into the Atlantic Ocean. Figuring Out Which GPS Systems Will Best Meet Your Needs

By Esther Lynch

Nowadays, GPS systems are everywhere. It wasn't too long ago that they cost quite a bit of money and hardly anyone had one. Today, GPS systems are so prevalent they are built in to most cell phones. These days instead of the question being "is a GPS a requirement for you", it should be "which GPS do you want to get?"

Buying a new GPS system is easy, if you have the right knowledge. Being careful and shopping smart will help you avoid being taken for a ride. You ask how to shop smart when looking for a new GPS system? What sorts of decisions will you need to consider? What are the main things you will need to worry about? What should you look for to avoid being ripped off? Read on for a few of the things you should be considering.

What is your preference in instructions for your product? Do you want to be able to talk to a live person who is following along with you while you travel? Do you prefer the computerized voice controlled by a system that pulls information from a satellite? This is a very important decision to make. The GPS units that allow you to access a live person are more expensive but also very handy when you miss your turn or are lost somewhere. The real time instruction you will receive from a live person is much more pleasing than anything else. You will discover that those systems that offer preloaded computerized information are a lot less expensive though. It simply a matter of reaction time and comfort level.

Consider your motive for wanting a GPS system. Hopefully you are not one of those shoppers who just wants to keep up with trends, because that's expensive. Consider why you want a GPS system before you even think about features, brands and prices. Are you going to relocate soon and want to be able to find your way around? Are you living in an urban area that's very spread out? Do you have to drive a lot for business? Are you someone who tends to get lost? GPS systems serve the needs of many different kinds of people. The reason you want the system will help you start your shopping process.

What type of customer support do you yearn for them to provide? Do you require a lot of advice? If you answer "yes", you'll need to be sure that your system comes with a customer service that provides help from real people. If you are a do-it-yourself-er, you wouldn't see the necessity of having live people to talk to. At the very least, you'll need to make sure that if you want the option available, that you'll be able to call up a live person who is well rounded and knows a lot about warranties, returns and other technical issues you may have to deal with. If the unit doesn't offer any kind of customer service support, keep looking for something else.

GPS systems are pretty similar to other electronic accessories. If you desire to find the product that allows you to get the most for your money, you'll need to do some investigating. You'll need to determine why you feel you need one, how frequently you'll be using it and what kind of customer service you'll need. All of these things will help you narrow down your selection of available units. If you are a clever consumer, you can rest assured you'll be getting the best bargain around.

GPS systems can be very helpful-especially if you are prone to getting lost. They can help you learn your way around a new city. They can also assist you in figuring out where you are going when traveling and even give alternate route options. This most important key to getting the best system possible is to become a smart shopper. If you carefully consider all of the things we've discussed here you will be able to make a solid decision on the system you buy.

Hiking Adventures In North Carolina Mountains

By James Harden

Searching for a top-notch hiking experience? Look no further than the western Tarheel State, North Carolina. The Great Smoky Mountains, part of the Appalachian range runs from northern Georgia to Quebec, encompassing an area that's abundant with picturesque beauty in addition to romance in combination with activities that comprise not just hiking, but fishing, camping, whitewater rafting and more. Look into the region's cabin rentals, settle in for the short term then put on an excellent pair of boots, snag a day pack along with a walking stick and begin your adventure!

North Carolina cabin rentals are also available in close proximity to several of the state's national parks, like Chimney Rock, Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is possible to learn more at http://www.nps.gov/applications/parksearch/state.cfm?st=NC , a government web page linking to Websites for all of North Carolina's national parks.

Nearly all North Carolina cabin rentals are rustic and isolated, and make for perfect bases of operation during an outdoors hiking vacation in the state's mountain country. There is certainly an amazing array from which to choose, from cozy little cabins for two complete with hot tubs to large facilities able to sleep six to ten people and are pet-friendly as well. A few of these are offered by large real estate companies, but for friendly, personalized service from real people, we advocate Vacation Rentals By Owner (http://www.VRBO.com), which is literally the most well-liked resource on the Internet for North Carolina cabin rentals; the site represents individual property owners who're prepared to rent out their homes to vacationers.

You might fancy being closer to the big city and its amenities however and larger cities do exist that are convenient to North Carolina's scenic mountain country. Bed breakfasts around the city of Asheville are an excellent alternative to rustic mountain cabins for individuals who would preferably like to be closer to urban nightlife and convenience. These people can find some awesome travel and accommodation deals through the city's official Internet site, found on the World Wide Web at http://www.exploreasheville.com/. This site has an extensive listing of the city's accommodations and dining establishments and a list of nightclubs, theaters and other events and you're likely to come across valuable coupons as well.

Fans of Small Town America need to visit the charming hill town of Mount Airy, located in North Carolina's northwest corner. The native land of TV actor Andy Griffith, Mount Airy was the inspiration for the fictional Mayberry, site of Griffith's TV show between 1960 and 1968.

Once you are settled in, it's time to explore the area and a two week vacation may not be nearly an adequate amount of time to see and do everything. Then again, you can plan in advance by browsing North Carolina's official tourist site at http://www.visitnc.com. VisitNC is a resource for everything associated with the Tarheel State and is the perfect place online to begin mapping your hiking adventure in the Great Smoky Mountains or along North Carolina's share of the Appalachian Trail.

The Mapes Hotel: Reno's Lost Art Deco Jewel

By Ross Everett

On January 31, 2000, the historic Mapes Hotel in Reno was imploded by 75 pounds of explosives tucked into the art-deco structures support columns. The destruction of the Mapes put an end to years of efforts to preserve the building via lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots action. The National Trust for Historic Preservation took up the cause of the Mapes, and challenged the destruction in a suit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court.

While the logic and necessity of demolishing the Mapes is very questionable, one thing that is certain is that the hotel was an important part of Northern Nevada history. The opening of the Mapes in'47 ushered in a new era in casino gambling, and changed the economy and way of life in Nevada forever. The Mapes was actually the first property in the country to combine a hotel, casino and live entertainment under the same roof. It also became the hotel of choice for celebrities staying in Northern Nevada. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe stayed at The Mapes during the filming of 'The Misfits'. Joseph McCarthy, America's famed anti-Communist crusader, admitted to a reporter over cocktails in the Mapes Lounge that he really didn't have a list of Communists in the US despite his frequent and vitriolic insistence to the contrary.

In the 50s and 60s it became, along with Lake Tahoes Cal-Neva Lodge the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The top floor, window-walled Sky Room showcased performances by the legends: Sinatra, Louis Prima, Mae West, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the Marx Brothers among others. Subsequent years were not kind to downtown Reno but the Mapes prospered during the 60's and 70's. The hotel finally closed in'82, due more to financial difficulties experienced by the Mapes family caused by one of their other Northern Nevada gaming properties than anything else.

While the last twenty years brought an amazing boom in the population and economy of Southern Nevada, the Northern part of the state didn't see much of it at all. For that reason, the urgency of destroying the Mapes is even more questionable. In the Las Vegas area, its easy to justify the demolition of older hotels with simple economics--the older properties simply can't compete in the current mega-resort dominated marketplace. Furthermore, the insane valuation of the land on which they sit makes it financially unfeasible to preserve them as pop culture museums.

This is not the case in Reno, where land and buildings for development in virtually every casino area are abundant. The city argued that the land on which the Mapes stood was necessary for their redevelopment efforts--a somewhat absurd position given the realities of downtown Reno and the lack of any real development on the property since the demolition. Despite receiving a number of viable concepts for the Mapes Building, the City Redevelopment Authority rejected all of them and the Mapes was destined for demolition.

The behavior of the City Redevelopment Authority throughout the process has come into question. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was perfectly placed between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. In'96, the city purchased the htoel and began accepting proposals for redevelopment. Despite receiving a number of proposals that made sense both in terms of their financial workability and positive impact on the downtown area, the City Redevelopment Authority nixed all of them and insisted that the hotel be razed.

After the demolition of The Mapes Hotel, the lot remained vacant for almost a year until a temporary ice skating rink was constructed in the winter of 2001. The site now houses a permanent ice skating rink which, while not a bad use for the land, brings into question the insistence by the City Redevelopment Agency that none of the proposals to preserve the building were viable. Clearly, they had no specific plan or even general idea of what to do with the land but for some reason wanted to see the hotel come down. This has led to all manner of speculation, ranging from financial self interest to a rumor that the structure was 'haunted' and needed to be destroyed to forestall future paranormal activity in Washoe County. Whatever the reason, the city of Reno lost a valuable landmark of a more civilized era.

Scary Bridges In The World

By Rusty McMillan

Bridges are supposed to be creating a link between two far off places to help people and animals commute easily. But some people in different parts of the world created the bridges though out of necessity but they turned to be the scary bridges. What makes the bridges worldwide scary? The bridge may be centuries old and in a dilapidated condition, or the material used is not appropriate for bearing the load. But whatever be the reason, the fact is that people continue to use them sometimes on daily basis by putting their lives at risk.

The scary bridges are there in various countries like Pakistan, Malaysia, Nepal, India, Philippines and many more. If you are scared of heights, I am sure that these will continue to haunt you in your sleeps for days to come. But if you love thrill in your life, these outrageous and incredible scary bridges may be helpful. Some of these bridges are sky high vehicular bridges, super high suspension bridges, hanging bridges and creepy rope bridges.

The most dangerous of all is the Hussaini- Borit Lake Bridge in Pakistan. What makes it one of the scary bridges is that it is too old, extremely narrow and moreover the wooden planks are missing. But the people still use it on a regular basis. It may be a thrill for some but it is surely dangerous. It has continued to be regularly visited by the tourists worldwide as the panoramic view is breathtaking.

The Taman Negara National Park Bridge in Malaysia is considered to be world's largest canopy walkway. The unstable hanging rope bridge is made of mere netting, ropes, planks and few ladders 500 meters long that connect via trees. This bridges shakes as visitors walk from post to post taking photos. This is a very scary bridge as it sits at 50 meters above the ground enough to scare. The hanging bridge of Ghasa, Nepal made out of necessity to lower down the congestion between the towns is another to be added in the list of scary bridges. The height though unknown is enough to injure or kill any creature who takes on the path.

Japan's Scariest Suspension bridge, the Musou Tsuribashi Bridge is perhaps the oldest and the narrowest bridge in Japan. This makes it clear why this bridge is one of the scary bridges in the world. Far from the hustle and bustle of this city, this bridge might look to be an exciting advent, but beware. If you get injured walking past this bridge, nobody might turn out to help.

Reading about the scary bridges in the world might give you a spinning chill but they are there regularly taken up by people for commuting.

Romantic Day In Antigua Guatemala

By Marina K. Villatoro

I love living in Antigua because in it you will find everything really close to you. In this case my husband and I wanted to have a romantic day out, so first we went out for lunch at a really cute restaurant called Cafe Flor where they serve really good Thai food. Then we went for a prvate salsa class which turned out to be an extra fun adventure.

And at the end of the day we visited a luxurious hotel of Antigua called Mezon Panza Verde for a romantic dinner. When we were making the reservation they suggested a dinner up in the roof of the hotel where they have a Cupula. This sounded great to me because it was just what I wanted: A super private and romantic evening so i took the oportunity.

When we got there and before they took us to our table we had to do some waiting in the lobby which was not what I wanted but it was ok because it wasn't too long and it gave me some chance to take more pictures. Then a member of their staff took us to where our table was. To get there we had to walk across the terrace of the hotel, sadly it was a bit cloudy but we still could see the outskirts of the beautiful Agua Volcano and loved it.

When we got there I couldn't believe how absolutely beautiful it was! La Cupula is this beautiful tiny room where they had a beautifully decorated table with candles, roses and a great view.

This ended up being a perfect day out and romantic dinner where my husband and I got the chance to relax and just be together after a long time of not having time for ourselves.

Bottom line is: Antigua isn't just a beautiful city with lots of places to visit and photograph, it is also a great place for romantic getaways and family vacations, I know because I've explored it.
